 AN ACT to amend the vehicle and traffic law, in  relation  to  requiring
   the suspension of the license to operate a motor vehicle of any person
   who  was  operating  a  motor vehicle at the time of an accident which
   resulted in a fatality

   THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
 
   Section  1. Paragraph b of subdivision 2 of section 510 of the vehicle
 and traffic law is amended by adding a new subparagraph (xviii) to  read
 as follows:
   (XVIII)  FOR  A  PERIOD  NO LESS THAN SIXTY DAYS BUT NO LATER THAN THE
 SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF THE REQUIREMENTS SET FORTH UNDER THIS  SUBPARA-
 GRAPH  WHERE  THE HOLDER WAS OPERATING A MOTOR VEHICLE AT THE TIME OF AN
 ACCIDENT WHICH RESULTED IN  A  FATALITY.  A  PERSON  WHOSE  LICENSE  WAS
 SUSPENDED  UNDER THIS SUBPARAGRAPH SHALL NOT HAVE THEIR LICENSE RESTORED
 BEFORE THE SUCCESSFUL RECOMPLETION OF ALL REQUIREMENTS UNDER SUBDIVISION
 FOUR OF SECTION FIVE HUNDRED TWO OF THIS ARTICLE FOR SUCH LICENSE  WHICH
 SHALL  NOT  TAKE  PLACE BEFORE THE SIXTIETH DAY AFTER THE ACCIDENT WHICH
 RESULTED IN THE SUSPENSION.
   § 2. This act shall  take  effect  on  the  first  of  September  next
 succeeding the date on which it shall have become a law. Effective imme-
 diately, the addition, amendment and/or repeal of any rule or regulation
 necessary  for  the implementation of this act on its effective date are
 authorized to be made and completed on or before such effective date.
