 AN ACT to amend the town law, in relation to  authorizing  the  town  of
   Smithtown to make ordinances regarding longbows and crossbows
 
   THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
 
   Section 1. Section 130 of the town law is amended by  adding  two  new
 subdivisions 30 and 31 to read as follows:
   30.  LONGBOWS.  IN  THE  TOWN  OF  SMITHTOWN, IN THE COUNTY OF SUFFOLK
 PROHIBITING THE DISCHARGE OF LONGBOWS IN AREAS IN  WHICH  SUCH  ACTIVITY
 MAY  BE HAZARDOUS TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC OR NEARBY RESIDENTS, AND PROVID-
 ING FOR THE POSTING OF SUCH AREAS WITH SIGNS GIVING NOTICE OF SUCH REGU-
 LATIONS, WHICH ORDINANCES, RULES AND REGULATIONS MAY BE  MORE,  BUT  NOT
 LESS,  RESTRICTIVE THAN ANY OTHER PROVISION OF LAW. THIRTY DAYS PRIOR TO
 THE ADOPTION OF ANY ORDINANCE CHANGING THE ONE HUNDRED FIFTY  FOOT  RULE
 ESTABLISHED  PURSUANT  TO SECTION 11-0931 OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVA-
 TION LAW, NOTICE MUST BE SENT TO THE REGIONAL  SUPERVISOR  OF  FISH  AND
 GAME  OF  THE  DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION, NOTIFYING  SUCH
 REGIONAL SUPERVISOR OF SUCH INTENTION.
   31. CROSSBOWS. IN THE TOWN OF SMITHTOWN,  IN  THE  COUNTY  OF  SUFFOLK
 PROHIBITING  THE  DISCHARGE OF CROSSBOWS IN AREAS IN WHICH SUCH ACTIVITY
 MAY BE HAZARDOUS TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC OR NEARBY RESIDENTS, AND  PROVID-
 ING FOR THE POSTING OF SUCH AREAS WITH SIGNS GIVING NOTICE OF SUCH REGU-
 LATIONS,  WHICH  ORDINANCES,  RULES AND REGULATIONS MAY BE MORE, BUT NOT
 LESS, RESTRICTIVE THAN ANY OTHER PROVISION OF LAW.  THIRTY DAYS PRIOR TO
 THE ADOPTION OF ANY ORDINANCE CHANGING THE TWO HUNDRED FIFTY  FOOT  RULE
 ESTABLISHED  PURSUANT  TO SECTION 11-0931 OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVA-
 TION LAW, NOTICE MUST BE SENT TO THE REGIONAL  SUPERVISOR  OF  FISH  AND
 GAME  OF  THE  DEPARTMENT  OF ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION, NOTIFYING SUCH
 REGIONAL SUPERVISOR OF SUCH INTENTION.
   § 2. This act shall take effect on the ninetieth day  after  it  shall
 have become a law.
