   Committee on Consumer Affairs and Protection
 
 AN ACT to amend the general business law, in relation to requiring navi-
   gation systems utilizing GPS technology to identify the height of  any
   bridge or overpass along a proposed route
 
   THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
 
   Section 1. The general business law is amended by adding a new section
 390-f to read as follows:
   § 390-F. GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM NAVIGATION. NO  ELECTRONIC  MAP  OR
 NAVIGATION  SYSTEM  WHICH UTILIZES GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM (GPS) TECH-
 NOLOGY TO DIRECT THE DRIVER OF A MOTOR VEHICLE TO A  SPECIFIED  DESTINA-
 TION  ALONG  A PROPOSED ROUTE OR ROUTES SHALL BE OFFERED FOR USE OR SALE
 IN THIS STATE UNLESS SUCH MAP OR NAVIGATION  SYSTEM  PROVIDES  THE  USER
 WITH  THE  ACTUAL  HEIGHT OF EACH BRIDGE OR OVERPASS WHICH THE USER WILL
 PASS UNDER ALONG A PROPOSED ROUTE GENERATED IN RESPONSE TO A REQUEST  OR
 INFORMATION PROVIDED BY SUCH USER.
   § 2. This act shall take effect on the one hundred eightieth day after
 it shall have become a law.
