Directs the commissioner of education to develop a program and provide for a system whereby teachers may submit examination receipts for any New York state teaching certifications earned after the first permanent teaching certification for reimbursement by the department of education for any additional certifications.

   printed to be committed to the Committee on Education
 
 AN ACT to amend the education  law,  in  relation  to  reimbursement  of
   certain examination fees
 
   THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

   Section 1. Section 305 of the education law is amended by adding a new
 subdivision 60 to read as follows:
   60. THE COMMISSIONER SHALL DEVELOP A PROGRAM AND PROVIDE FOR A  SYSTEM
 WHEREBY  TEACHERS MAY SUBMIT EXAMINATION RECEIPTS FOR ANY NEW YORK STATE
 TEACHING  CERTIFICATIONS  EARNED  AFTER  THE  FIRST  PERMANENT  TEACHING
 CERTIFICATION AND RECEIVE REIMBURSEMENT BY THE DEPARTMENT FOR SUCH EXAM-
 INATION  FEES.  SUCH  EXAMINATION  RECEIPTS SHALL BE SUBMITTED ELECTRON-
 ICALLY OR IN ANY OTHER MEDIA  FORM  WHICH  THE  COMMISSIONER  REASONABLY
 DETERMINES OFFERS THE SAME DEGREE OF ACCOUNTABILITY AND CONTROL PROVIDED
 BY  PAPER  TESTING  RECEIPTS  OR PAPER CERTIFICATIONS FOR THE PURPOSE OF
 REIMBURSEMENT TO THE PERSON, SCHOOL, SCHOOL DISTRICT OR MUNICIPALITY FOR
 THE FEES OF TAKING SUCH EXAMINATIONS.
   § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
