 Introduced by Sens. STEC, ASHBY, BORRELLO, GRIFFO, LANZA, MARTINS, MATT-
   ERA,  MURRAY, OBERACKER, O'MARA, ORTT, RHOADS, ROLISON, WEBER, WEIK --
   read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to  be  committed  to
   the Committee on Higher Education
 
 AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to prohibiting the use of
   SUNY  dormitories for the purposes of providing permanent or temporary
   housing for migrant populations
 
   THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
 
   Section 1. Section 355 of the education law is amended by adding a new
 subdivision 22 to read as follows:
   22.  NOTWITHSTANDING  ANY LAW, RULE OR REGULATION TO THE CONTRARY, THE
 STATE UNIVERSITY TRUSTEES SHALL ADOPT A POLICY PROHIBITING  THE  USE  OF
 DORMITORIES  MAINTAINED  AND  OPERATED BY A STATE-OPERATED CAMPUS OF THE
 STATE UNIVERSITY OF NEW YORK FOR THE PURPOSES OF PROVIDING PERMANENT  OR
 TEMPORARY HOUSING FOR MIGRANT POPULATIONS. NOTHING IN THIS SECTION SHALL
 BE  CONSTRUED  TO  RESTRICT  AN ENROLLED STUDENT OR MEMBER OF A CAMPUS'S
 FACULTY OR STAFF FROM ACCESSING HOUSING IN  DORMITORIES  MAINTAINED  AND
 OPERATED BY A STATE-OPERATED CAMPUS OF THE STATE UNIVERSITY OF NEW YORK.
   § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
