BILL NUMBER: S7737 SPONSOR: HOYLMAN-SIGAL TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the penal law, in relation to facilitating the prose- cution of hate crimes; and to repeal subdivision 3 of section 240.30 of the penal law PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL: To modernize the offenses eligible for hate crime prosecution by updat- ing the list of eligible offenses and by further delineating the umbrel- la offense of aggravated harassment SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS: Section 1 amends subdivision 3 of section 485.05 of the penal law to add 31 offenses as specified offenses eligible for hate crime prosecution. These additional offenses include:

HOYLMAN-SIGAL -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Rules AN ACT to amend the penal law, in relation to facilitating the prose- cution of hate crimes; and to repeal subdivision 3 of section 240.30 of the penal law THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Subdivision 3 of section 485.05 of the penal law, as amended by section 3 of part R of chapter 55 of the laws of 2020, is amended to read as follows: 3.
