BILL NUMBER: S5486 SPONSOR: JACKSON TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the civil service law, in relation to requirements for issuing civil service examination announcements PURPOSE: To require the state civil service department and municipal civil service commissions to issue announcements of competitive civil service examinations more broadly. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section 1 amends subdivision 2 of section 50 of the Civil Service Law to require the state department of civil service and municipal civil service commissions to announce competitive civil service examinations to BOCES, high schools, colleges, universities, local social services districts, and job training programs that are located within the same geographic area as the civil service commission. JACKSON -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Civil Service and Pensions AN ACT to amend the civil service law, in relation to requirements for issuing civil service examination announcements THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Subdivision 2 of section 50 of the civil service law, as amended by chapter 401 of the laws of 2021, is amended to read as follows: 2. Announcement of examination. (A) The state civil service department and municipal commissions shall issue an announcement of each compet- itive examination, setting forth the minimum qualifications required, the subjects of the examination, and such other information as they may deem necessary, and shall advertise and promote such examination in such manner as the nature of the examination may require. Such announcement and advertisement shall each inform prospective applicants of the options for religious observance provided in subdivision eight of this section. (B) IN ADDITION TO ANY ANNOUNCEMENT REQUIRED BY PARAGRAPH (A) OF THIS SUBDIVISION, THE DEPARTMENT AND MUNICIPAL COMMISSIONS SHALL ISSUE EVERY ANNOUNCEMENT OF EACH COMPETITIVE EXAMINATION TO THE FOLLOWING ENTITIES IF THE ENTITY IS LOCATED WITHIN THE SAME GEOGRAPHIC AREA AS THE DEPART- MENT OR COMMISSION: BOARD OF COOPERATIVE EDUCATIONAL SERVICES (BOCES), HIGH SCHOOLS, COLLEGES, UNIVERSITIES, LOCAL SOCIAL SERVICES DISTRICTS, AND JOB TRAINING PROGRAMS. IN ADDITION, THE DEPARTMENT AND EACH MUNICI- PAL COMMISSION SHALL ALLOW ANY ENTITY TO SIGN UP TO BE NOTIFIED ELEC- TRONICALLY WHEN AN ANNOUNCEMENT IS ISSUED. § 2.
