BILL NUMBER: S833 SPONSOR: BRESLIN TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend a chapter of the laws of 2022 amending the insurance law relating to the provision of supplemental spousal liability insurance to persons who are insured for loss resulting from the ownership, mainte- nance and use of a motor vehicle, as proposed in legislative bills numbers S. 9367 and A. 1029, in relation to the effectiveness thereof PURPOSE: This is a chapter amendment that makes changes to provisions of L.2022, c.735, to clarify provisions relating to the provision of supplemental spousal liability insurance SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: This bill creates an "opt-out" approach to supplemental spousal liabil- ity (SSL) coverage under an auto insurance policy. BRESLIN -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Rules AN ACT to amend a chapter of the laws of 2022 amending the insurance law relating to the provision of supplemental spousal liability insurance to persons who are insured for loss resulting from the ownership, maintenance and use of a motor vehicle, as proposed in legislative bills numbers S. 9367 and A. 1029, in relation to the effectiveness thereof THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Section 2 of a chapter of the laws of 2022 amending the insurance law relating to the provision of supplemental spousal liabil- ity insurance to persons who are insured for loss resulting from the ownership, maintenance and use of a motor vehicle, as proposed in legis- lative bills numbers S. 9367 and A. 1029, is amended to read as follows: § 2. This act shall take effect on the first of [January] AUGUST next succeeding the date on which it shall have become a law and shall apply to policies issued, renewed or modified on or after such date; PROVIDED, HOWEVER, THAT THE PROVISIONS OF THIS ACT SHALL EXPIRE JULY 31, 2027 WHEN UPON SUCH DATE SUCH PROVISIONS OF THIS ACT SHALL BE DEEMED REPEALED. Effective immediately, the addition, amendment and/or repeal of any rule or regulation necessary for the implementation of this act on its effec- tive date are authorized to be made and completed on or before such effective date. § 2.
