BILL NUMBER: S985 SPONSOR: RIVERA TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the public health law, in relation to the appointment of the state medicaid director PURPOSE: This bill provides that the Medicaid Director shall be appointed by the Governor. SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS: Section 1 amends section 208-a of the public health law as it relates to the appointment of the state medicaid director. This section directs the Medicaid Director to be appointed by the Governor at the advice and consent of the Senate. Section 2 reflects the effective date.

RIVERA -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Health AN ACT to amend the public health law, in relation to the appointment of the state medicaid director THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The public health law is amended by adding a new section 208-a to read as follows: § 208-A. MEDICAID DIRECTOR. NOTWITHSTANDING ANY OTHER PROVISION OF THIS ARTICLE, THE POSITION OF MEDICAID DIRECTOR SHALL BE APPOINTED BY THE GOVERNOR, BY AND WITH THE ADVICE AND CONSENT OF THE SENATE. § 2. This act shall take effect on the first of January next succeed- ing the date on which it shall have become a law and shall apply to appointments made on or after such date.
