 AN ACT to amend the judiciary law, in relation to prohibiting any court,
   party  or person other than a stenographer from providing or selling a
   court transcript to a third party
 
   THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

   Section  1. Section 300 of the judiciary law, as renumbered by chapter
 649 of the laws of 1945, is amended to read as follows:
   § 300. Stenographer [must] SHALL, UPON THE PAYMENT OF FEES ALLOWED  BY
 LAW  THEREFOR, furnish A certified transcript of [proceedings to parties
 on payment of fees. The stenographer shall, upon the payment of his fees
 allowed by law therefor, furnish a certified transcript of] the whole or
 any part of [his] THE minutes OF A PROCEEDING, in any case  reported  by
 [him]  THE  STENOGRAPHER, to any party to the action requiring the same.
 ANY COURT, PARTY OR PERSON WHO HAS PURCHASED A TRANSCRIPT  MAY,  WITHOUT
 PAYING  A  FURTHER  FEE TO THE STENOGRAPHER, REPRODUCE A COPY OR PORTION
 THEREOF AS AN EXHIBIT PURSUANT TO COURT ORDER OR RULE, OR  FOR  INTERNAL
 USE,  BUT  SHALL  NOT  OTHERWISE PROVIDE OR SELL A COPY OR COPIES TO ANY
 OTHER PARTY OR PERSON.
   § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
