 AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to eliminating  fees  for
   the  provisions  of  transcripts for recipients of a general education
   diploma or high school equivalency diploma
 
   THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
 
   Section  1.  Section 317 of the education law, as added by chapter 170
 of the laws of 1994, is amended to read as follows:
   § 317. General education development  exam;  HIGH  SCHOOL  EQUIVALENCY
 DIPLOMA.    1.  Notwithstanding  any  provision  of law, no fee shall be
 established for admission to the general education development exam.
   2. NO FEE SHALL BE CHARGED FOR PROVIDING TRANSCRIPTS OR PROOF OF AWARD
 OF A HIGH SCHOOL EQUIVALENCY DIPLOMA.
   § 2. This act shall take effect on the thirtieth day  after  it  shall
