 AN ACT to amend the state law, in relation  to  naming  the  red-spotted
   newt/eastern newt the official amphibian of the state of New York
 
   THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

   Section 1. The state law is amended by adding a new  section  87-a  to
 read as follows:
   §  87-A.  STATE  AMPHIBIAN.  THE  RED-SPOTTED NEWT/EASTERN NEWT (NOTO-
 PHTHALMUS VIRIDESCENS) SHALL BE THE OFFICIAL AMPHIBIAN OF THE  STATE  OF
 NEW YORK.
   § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
