Prohibits student-athletes from entering into contracts providing compensation for the use of the athlete's name, image, or likeness for the endorsement of tobacco, alcohol, illegal substances or activities, banned athletic substances, or any form of gambling or gaming, including sports wagering.

 AN ACT to amend  the  education  law,  in  relation  to  student-athlete
   contracts
 
   THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

   Section 1. Subdivision 6 of section 6438-c of  the  education  law  is
 amended by adding a new paragraph (e) to read as follows:
   (E)  A  STUDENT-ATHLETE  SHALL  NOT  ENTER  INTO  A CONTRACT PROVIDING
 COMPENSATION FOR THE USE OF THE ATHLETE'S NAME, IMAGE, OR  LIKENESS  FOR
 THE  ENDORSEMENT  OF TOBACCO, ALCOHOL, ILLEGAL SUBSTANCES OR ACTIVITIES,
 BANNED ATHLETIC SUBSTANCES, OR ANY FORM OF GAMBLING OR GAMING, INCLUDING
 SPORTS WAGERING.
   § 2. This act shall take effect immediately and  shall  apply  to  all
 contracts  entered  into by any student-athlete on and after such effec-
