S T A T E O F N E W Y O R K ________________________________________________________________________ 2473 2025-2026 Regular Sessions I N A S S E M B L Y January 17, 2025 ___________ Introduced by M. of A. HAWLEY -- read once and referred to the Committee on Codes AN ACT to amend the penal law, in relation to the definition of person THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The closing paragraph of section 125.05 of the penal law, as amended by chapter 1 of the laws of 2019, is amended to read as follows: "Person," when referring to the victim of a homicide, means a human being who has been born and is alive. THIS PROVISION SHALL BE KNOWN AS "MYA'S LAW". § 2. This act shall take effect immediately. EXPLANATION--Matter in ITALICS (underscored) is new; matter in brackets [ ] is old law to be omitted.
