 AN ACT to amend the veterans' services law, in relation  to  creating  a
   women  veterans  history trail in order to recognize and celebrate the
   history of women in service

   THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
 
   Section  1.  The  veterans'  services  law  is amended by adding a new
 section 20-a to read as follows:
   § 20-A. WOMEN VETERANS HISTORY TRAIL. 1. THE DEPARTMENT SHALL  DEVELOP
 AND  DESIGNATE  A  WOMEN VETERANS HISTORY TRAIL IN CONSULTATION WITH THE
 DIRECTOR OF THE NEW YORK STATE MILITARY  MUSEUM  AND  VETERANS  RESOURCE
 CENTER, THE COMMISSIONER OF THE OFFICE OF PARKS, RECREATION AND HISTORIC
 PRESERVATION, AND THE STATE HISTORIAN.
   2.  THE WOMEN VETERANS HISTORY TRAIL SHALL INCLUDE, BUT NOT BE LIMITED
 TO, MUSEUMS, MEMORIALS, BATTLE SITES, HISTORIC HOMES, AND ANY OTHER ITEM
 THAT THE COMMISSIONER MAY APPROVE.
   3. THE COMMISSIONER SHALL ISSUE, ON BEHALF OF THE DEPARTMENT, A PUBLIC
 REQUEST FOR INFORMATION FOR ANY COUNTY, CITY, TOWN, OR VILLAGE  DESIRING
 TO HAVE ANY MUNICIPALITY, HISTORIC SITE OR INSTITUTION TO BE INCLUDED IN
 THE  TRAIL.  INDIVIDUALS AND ORGANIZATIONS, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO
 LOCAL VETERANS' SERVICE AGENCIES OR  CONGRESSIONAL  CHARTERED  VETERANS'
 SERVICE  ORGANIZATIONS, MAY PROVIDE RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THE INCLUSION OF
 THE TRAIL.
   4. THE DEPARTMENT SHALL DEVELOP A METHOD OF POSTING INFORMATION  ABOUT
 THE  TRAIL  ESTABLISHED PURSUANT TO THIS SECTION PUBLICLY, INCLUDING BUT
 NOT LIMITED TO THE DEPARTMENT'S  WEBSITE,  A  FREE  MOBILE  APPLICATION,
 PRESS  RELEASES, AND THE DIGITAL VETERANS' WELCOME KIOSKS LOCATED STATE-
 WIDE.
   § 2. This act shall take effect on the ninetieth day  after  it  shall
 have become a law.
