BILL NUMBER: S282 SPONSOR: RHOADS TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the election law, in relation to publicly releasing ballot images PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL: To require the Board of Elections to make the images of ballots avail- able for public scrutiny SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section 1. Amends the election law by adding a new section 7-131 to authorize the Board of Elections to publicly release ballot images following an election. Section 2. Establishes effective date.

RHOADS, BORRELLO, OBERACKER -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Elections AN ACT to amend the election law, in relation to publicly releasing ballot images THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The election law is amended by adding a new section 7-131 to read as follows: § 7-131. BALLOTS; PUBLIC RELEASE OF BALLOT IMAGES. FOLLOWING AN ELECTION, THE BOARD OF ELECTIONS SHALL PUBLICLY RELEASE AND MAKE AVAIL- ABLE ONLINE, IMAGES OF ALL BALLOTS, EXCLUDING ALL PERSONAL IDENTIFYING INFORMATION. § 2. This act shall take effect immediately. EXPLANATION--Matter in ITALICS (underscored) is new; matter in brackets [ ] is old law to be omitted. LBD00200-01-5
