 Introduced by Sen. SEPULVEDA -- read twice and ordered printed, and when
   printed to be committed to the Committee on Codes
 
 AN  ACT to amend the executive law, in relation to requiring the release
   of body camera recordings in instances where an officer  fires  a  gun
   and  hits  someone  or  could  have caused injury, uses a stun gun, or
   makes use of any other force that causes harm within  thirty  days  of
   such incident
 
   THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
 
   Section 1. The executive law is amended by adding a new section  837-y
 to read as follows:
   § 837-Y. BODY CAMERA RECORDINGS RELEASE; USE OF FORCE. 1. POLICE AGEN-
 CIES  SHALL  RELEASE  BODY CAMERA RECORDINGS OF INSTANCES WHERE A POLICE
 OFFICER OR PEACE OFFICER: (A) FIRES A GUN AND HITS SOMEONE OR COULD HAVE
 CAUSED INJURY; (B) USES A STUN GUN; OR (C) MAKES USE OF ANY OTHER  FORCE
 THAT  CAUSES  HARM. SUCH BODY CAMERA RECORDINGS SHALL BE RELEASED WITHIN
 THIRTY DAYS OF SUCH INSTANCE.
   2. AS USED IN THIS SECTION, "BODY CAMERA RECORDINGS" SHALL MEAN  VIDEO
 AND  AUDIO  RECORDINGS  CAPTURED BY A CAMERA WORN BY A POLICE OFFICER OR
 PEACE OFFICER.
   § 2. This act shall take effect on the thirtieth day  after  it  shall
 have become a law.
