AN ACT directing the office of mental health to conduct a study on the
effects of abuse suffered while incarcerated on formerly incarcerated
individuals
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. The office of mental health, in conjunction with the
department of corrections and community supervision, shall conduct a
study on the effects of abuse suffered while incarcerated on formerly
incarcerated individuals. Such study shall identify, investigate and
analyze the temporary and lasting impacts and costs of abuse suffered
while incarcerated on formerly incarcerated individuals and make recom-
mendations for best treatment practices for people experiencing mental,
behavioral or physical health issues as a result of such abuse.
§ 2. Within one year of the effective date of this act, the office of
mental health shall issue a report of the findings of the study to the
governor, the temporary president of the senate and the speaker of the
assembly.
§ 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
