 AN ACT to amend the civil service law, in relation  to  providing  addi-
   tional credits to Nassau county law enforcement explorers

   THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
 
   Section 1. Short title. This act shall be known and may  be  cited  as
 the "Nassau future protectors act".
   §  2.  The civil service law is amended by adding a new article 6-A to
 read as follows:
                                ARTICLE 6-A
        SPECIAL RIGHTS FOR NASSAU COUNTY LAW ENFORCEMENT EXPLORERS
 SECTION 89. ADDITIONAL CREDIT ALLOWED FOR NASSAU COUNTY LAW  ENFORCEMENT
               EXPLORERS   IN  COMPETITIVE  EXAMINATIONS;  PREFERENCE  IN
               RETENTION UPON ABOLITION OF POSITIONS.
   § 89. ADDITIONAL CREDIT ALLOWED  FOR  NASSAU  COUNTY  LAW  ENFORCEMENT
 EXPLORERS  IN  COMPETITIVE  EXAMINATIONS;  PREFERENCE  IN RETENTION UPON
 ABOLITION OF POSITIONS. 1.  ADDITIONAL  CREDITS  SHALL  BE  ALLOWED  FOR
 PARTICIPANTS  OF  THE NASSAU COUNTY LAW ENFORCEMENT EXPLORING PROGRAM IN
 COMPETITIVE EXAMINATIONS FOR ORIGINAL APPOINTMENT. THE NASSAU COUNTY LAW
 ENFORCEMENT EXPLORING PROGRAM SHALL BE DEFINED AS A YOUTH POLICE  TRAIN-
 ING PROGRAM WHICH PROVIDES YOUTHS BETWEEN THE AGES OF FOURTEEN AND TWEN-
 TY  WITH  TRAINING  AND  ON  THE  PURPOSE, MISSION AND OBJECTIVES OF THE
 NASSAU COUNTY POLICE DEPARTMENT, PUBLIC SAFETY AND LAW ENFORCEMENT.
   (A) ON ALL ELIGIBLE LISTS RESULTING FROM COMPETITIVE EXAMINATIONS, THE
 NAMES OF ELIGIBLE PERSONS SHALL BE ENTERED IN THE  ORDER  OF  RESPECTIVE
 FINAL  EARNED  RATINGS  ON  EXAMINATIONS,  WITH THE NAME OF THE ELIGIBLE
 PERSON WITH THE HIGHEST FINAL EARNED RATINGS AT THE HEAD OF  SUCH  LIST,
 PROVIDED,  HOWEVER,  THAT  FOR  THE  PURPOSE OF DETERMINING FINAL EARNED
 RATINGS, NASSAU COUNTY LAW ENFORCEMENT EXPLORERS SHALL  BE  ENTITLED  TO
 
  EXPLANATION--Matter in ITALICS (underscored) is new; matter in brackets
                       [ ] is old law to be omitted.
