BILL NUMBER: S8032 SPONSOR: COMRIE TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the general municipal law, in relation to requiring further source separation of waste in cities with a population of one million or more PURPOSE: This bill will require municipalities to designate an additional bin or sealed container to separate recyclables that can be redeemed from other non-redeemable recyclables. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section 1: Amends the general municipal law by adding a new paragraph 3 to section 120-aa requiring cities of more than one million to pass laws modifying source-separation requirements to further separate redeemable recyclables

COMRIE -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Cities 1 AN ACT to amend the general municipal law, in relation to requiring further source separation of waste in cities with a population of one million or more THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Section 120-aa of the general municipal law is amended by adding a new subdivision 3 to read as follows: 3. PURSUANT TO THE AUTHORITY OF THIS SECTION, NO LATER THAN THE FIRST OF SEPTEMBER TWO THOUSAND TWENTY-NINE, EACH CITY WITH A POPULATION OF ONE MILLION OR MORE RESIDENTS SHALL ADOPT SUCH A LOCAL LAW OR ORDINANCE TO REQUIRE THAT SOLID WASTE WHICH HAS BEEN LEFT FOR COLLECTION SHALL BE SEPARATED NOT ONLY AS OTHERWISE REQUIRED BY THIS SECTION, BUT THAT SUCH WASTE WHICH IS ELIGIBLE TO BE REDEEMED UNDER TITLE TEN OF ARTICLE TWEN- TY-SEVEN OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION LAW IS SEPARATED FROM OTHER RECYCLABLE, REUSABLE, OR OTHERWISE MARKETABLE COMPONENTS. § 2.
