BILL NUMBER: S8051 SPONSOR: JACKSON TITLE OF BILL: An act directing the metropolitan transportation authority and the New York city transit authority to rename the 190th street subway station on the IND Eighth Avenue line to the 190th street - Fort Tryon Park station; and providing for the repeal of such provisions upon expiration thereof PURPOSE: To officially rename the 190th Street subway station to include "Fort Tryon Park," in recognition of the park's cultural, historical, and recreational significance, and to improve wayfinding and access for both residents and visitors. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section 1 directs the Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) to rename the 190th street subway station the "190th street-Fort Tryon Park"

JACKSON -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Transportation AN ACT directing the metropolitan transportation authority and the New York city transit authority to rename the 190th street subway station on the IND Eighth Avenue line to the 190th street - Fort Tryon Park station; and providing for the repeal of such provisions upon expira- tion thereof THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Upon a determination by the metropolitan transportation authority or the New York city transit authority that sufficient funds have been committed to it specifically for such purpose, the metropol- itan transportation authority, the public benefit corporation created by section 1263 of the public authorities law, and the New York city trans- it authority, the public benefit corporation created by section 1201 of the public authorities law, shall use such specifically committed funds to rename the 190th Street subway station on the IND Eighth Avenue line of the New York city subway to the 190th Street - Fort Tryon Park station. The metropolitan transportation authority shall ensure that all signs and any other items issued by the metropolitan transportation authority are updated to accurately reflect the new name of the station. § 2. This act shall take effect immediately and shall expire and be deemed repealed after the signs and any other items are accurately updated.
