 Introduced  by Sen. HARCKHAM -- read twice and ordered printed, and when
   printed to be committed to the Committee on Housing, Construction  and
   Community Development
 
 AN  ACT to amend the public housing law, in relation to the selection of
   tenants in state aided housing projects in the county of Westchester

   THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
 
   Section  1.  The public housing law is amended by adding a new section
 156-d to read as follows:
   § 156-D. SELECTION OF TENANTS; WESTCHESTER.  NOTWITHSTANDING ANY OTHER
 PROVISION OF LAW TO THE CONTRARY, THE COUNTY OF  WESTCHESTER  MAY  ADOPT
 AND  IMPLEMENT A LOCAL LAW WHICH GRANTS A PREFERENCE IN THE SELECTION OF
 TENANTS IN STATE AIDED PROJECTS  WITHIN  SUCH  COUNTY  OF  UP  TO  FIFTY
 PERCENT  FOR  PERSONS, WHO AT THE TIME OF APPLICATION, ARE CURRENT RESI-
 DENTS OF WESTCHESTER COUNTY, PROVIDED  THAT  SUCH  APPLICANTS  OTHERWISE
 QUALIFY FOR OCCUPANCY IN SUCH PROJECT.
   §  2. This act shall take effect immediately and shall apply to appli-
 cations for occupancy received on and after such effective date.
