SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section 1 - Exempts the positions of public health director and communi- ty services director in St. Lawrence County from residency requirements. It also requires that whoever fills these positions reside in a county contiguous to St. Lawrence County. Section 2 - Provides effective date

STEC -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Rules AN ACT to amend the public officers law, in relation to waiving the residency requirement for the St. Lawrence county public health direc- tor and community services director THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Section 3 of the public officers law is amended by adding a new subdivision 76 to read as follows: 76. IN THE COUNTY OF ST. LAWRENCE, THE PROVISIONS OF THIS SECTION REQUIRING A PERSON TO BE A RESIDENT OF THE POLITICAL SUBDIVISION OR MUNICIPAL CORPORATION OF THE STATE FOR WHICH SUCH PERSON SHALL BE CHOSEN OR WITHIN WHICH THEIR OFFICIAL FUNCTIONS ARE REQUIRED TO BE EXERCISED, SHALL NOT PREVENT A PERSON FROM HOLDING THE OFFICE OF COUNTY PUBLIC HEALTH DIRECTOR OR DIRECTOR OF COMMUNITY SERVICES OF THE COUNTY OF ST. LAWRENCE, PROVIDED THAT SUCH PERSON RESIDES IN A COUNTY ADJOINING ST. LAWRENCE COUNTY WITHIN THE STATE OF NEW YORK; PROVIDED, HOWEVER THAT ANY PERSON PERFORMING SUCH FUNCTIONS OR HOLDING THE OFFICE OF COUNTY PUBLIC HEALTH DIRECTOR OR DIRECTOR OF COMMUNITY SERVICES IN ANY OTHER COUNTY SHALL BE A RESIDENT OF SUCH COUNTY UNLESS OTHERWISE PROVIDED BY LAW. § 2.
