The housing lottery is part a commitment to help families obtain affordable, energy efficient housing in the Town of Islip. Housing Lotteries are held periodically throughout the year. Applications through the town's Community Development Agency are now being accepted.
The town evaluates each applicant's finances, credit and ability to get a bank loan. Each applicant must also meet federal criteria set by the Neighborhood Stabilization Program and the HOME program, which provides federal funds to purchase, renovate and sell the properties.
Town officials will pick names from a bingo cage to determine which applicants get first pick of the available homes. Once the homes are allocated, town officials will work with the owners to adjust subsidies and ensure that each family can afford to remain in the new residences.
To participate in the lottery contact Islip’s Community Development Agency at (631) 665-1185 for an application. For more information, visit their website: www.IslipCDA.org
