(Rochester, NY) - Recently, I had the privilege to attend the ribbon cutting ceremony for Christopher's Place Playground. It is located adjacent to Cameron Community Miinistries’ facilities at 48 Cameron St. The playground includes a bank of four swings, a teeter totter, extensive climbing area with slides and a sports court with portable basketball hoop as well as space for jump roping, games and other neighborhood events. The project also includes a raised bed planter so that children can learn about vegetable gardening. The playground was constructed to enhance programs for after school youth enrolled at Cameron Community Ministries, but it will be open at designated times for neighborhood use. Named in honor of Todd Allen’s 23-year-old son who lost his battle with cancer six months ago, the project was funded by more than $90,000 in private donations from individuals, churches, foundations and even some of the children in the ministries afterschool program.
