Our Letter to Governor Cuomo Requesting He Bar Non-Essential State-Funded Travel to Indiana

On Tuesday, a group of LGBT legislators and I wrote a letter to Governor Cuomo requesting that he take action to bar non-essential travel by state employees to Indiana in the aftermath of its discriminatory new law, which is an assault on basic civil rights for LGBT Americans everywhere. I applaud the Governor for issuing an executive order that will do just that. The Governor has sent a strong message that New York will not tolerate legalized discrimination against gays and lesbians. At the same time, I'm mindful that we have more work to do in Albany because transgender New Yorkers do not enjoy the same protections as the rest of us, and so I hope the outrage directed towards Indiana will also help spur new momentum on passing the Gender Expression Nondiscrimination Act. See a copy of our original letter to the Governor attached.
