There was a sea of purple showing support for Spinal Muscular Atrophy, or SMA, at Beaver Island State Park Saturday morning. Karen Shiesley started the walk a few years ago for her grandson Kale who’s battling the rare disease. Senator Ortt was proud to speak about a bill that originated out of Congressman Collins’ subcommittee. The 21st Century Cures Act would help develop effective treatments more quickly that could eventually lead to a cure.
