Statement From Senator Andrew J. Lanza on Legislation to Prohibit the Advertisement of Illegal Hotels Which Threaten the Affordable Housing Market and Quality of Life in Neighborhoods Across New York City
June 16, 2016
This bill (S.6340-A) is intended to deter bad actors from breaking the law by operating illegal hotels in residential rental environments. Those who operate illegal hotels jeopardize the safety and peace of our neighborhoods. It does not target homeowners like co-op or condo owners or interfere with their property rights whatsoever.
The bill will encourage responsible innovation that respects everyone and sends the message that bad actors won’t be tolerated.
