Sen Squadron Applauds Bushwick Inlet Park Progress

BROOKLYN - Today, State Senator Squadron released the following statement in response to the purchase of the final parcel of land for Bushwick Inlet Park in North Brooklyn:

“We’ve rallied, we’ve written, we’ve legislated -- and today, we celebrate together with Councilmember Levin, Friends of Bushwick Inlet Park, and the North Brooklyn community.

“Over a decade ago, a promise was made during the North Brooklyn rezoning -- a world-class park on the Greenpoint/Williamsburg waterfront. Today, we can celebrate real progress in ensuring promises made are promises kept. I look forward to working with the community and my colleagues as we move Bushwick Inlet Park forward, and build that long-promised expansion of our Harbor Park -- a Central Park for the center of our city.

“Councilmember Levin deserves tremendous credit for making this purchase a reality, along with the Friends of Bushwick Inlet Park, OSA, NAG, and local community members who’ve taken local community organizing to new heights, as well as the City, Assemblymember Lentol, Congressmember Maloney, Senator Dilan, Borough President Adams, and my colleagues in government.

Squadron has been an ardent advocate for a full Bushwick Inlet Park, introducing state legislation in 2015 for imminent domain at the siteproposing a funding model to acquire this parcel winning the support of six colleagues; supporting city legislation to better ensure rezoning commitments are delivered; and attending numerous community rallies.
