Squadron, Grand St. Settlement, NYCHA Unveil Security Improvements

Squadron Brings Over $40K to Grand St. Settlement for 25 Security Cameras and Improvements

Squadron: “Grand St. Settlement is a community cornerstone -- I’m thrilled to help increase safety with these improvements.”

NEW YORK  Today, State Senator Daniel Squadron, Grand Street Settlement, and the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) unveiled 25 security cameras and an upgraded monitoring system at the Grand Street Settlement 80 Pitt Street Community Center. Squadron allocated over $40,000 in state funding for the project, in partnership with NYCHA. Squadron also presented Grand Street with a Senate resolution marking their 100 year anniversary.

Squadron's funding to help increase and improve security at the 80 Pitt Street Community Center came in response to Grand Street’s request. The Community Center serves 13,000 seniors, youth, and children annually through its programming and services. In addition to 25 cameras, the funds also secured additional recording and storage devices, an updated monitoring screen, and facility enhancements including improved exterior lighting.

“For 100 years, Grand Street Settlement has been a community cornerstone, and I’m thrilled to help increase safety with these improvements,” said State Senator Daniel Squadron. “The Community Center serves as an important resource for 13,000 seniors and youth annually, and with Grand Street's continued expansion plans, I'm proud to continue to partner together. Thank you to Executive Director Cordero and Grand Street Settlement, as well as NYCHA.”

“A brighter, safer and more secure building means our Lower East Side Hub will continue to serve as a platform to strengthen this community. Big thanks to Senator Squadron for working with NYCHA to implement these much-needed upgrades,” said Executive Director Robert Cordero.

“As we work to enhance safety across NYCHA, security cameras are a key part of that process,” said NYCHA Vice President for Public Safety Gerald Nelson. “Working with our partners in government like State Senator Daniel Squadron will help the Authority ensure residents live in the safe and connected community they deserve. We appreciate his dedication to our residents at Grand Street Settlement.”
