(Middletown, NY)-State Senator John J. Bonacic (R/C/I-Mt. Hope) marked the beginning of National Library Week, which lasts from April 10th-16th. First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries across the country each April. It is a time to celebrate the contributions of our nation's libraries and librarians and to promote library use and support. All types of libraries - school, public, academic and special – participate. This year’s theme is “Libraries Transform”
“Libraries truly have the power to transform the lives of so many people,” said Senator Bonacic. “By simply offering a book to a young child, or allowing them access to technology they may never have been exposed to, libraries are making positive impacts in people’s lives every day. I would encourage those in the 42nd Senate District to visit their local libraries, not just during National Library Week, but frequently, to truly experience the importance that libraries have.”
Celebrations during National Library Week include:
Tuesday, April 12: National Library Workers Day, a day for library staff, users, administrators and Friends groups to recognize the valuable contributions made by all library workers.
Wednesday, April 13: National Bookmobile Day, a day to recognize the contributions of our nation's bookmobiles and the dedicated professionals who make quality bookmobile outreach possible in their communities.
