'Lawmakers & Volunteers Serve Food to Children, Recognize Task Force'

The visit also provided the area leaders with an opportunity to raise awareness of the regional crisis of childhood hunger and discuss the challenge with regional program coordinators from the Food Bank of the Southern Tier and numerous other Chemung County agencies.

Elmira, N.Y., August 10--Senator O'Mara joined Congressman Tom Reed (R-Corning) and Elmira Mayor Dan Mandell (R-Elmira) yesterday to pay a visit to the children and families participating in the Chemung County Child Hunger Task Force's Summer Lunch Program at Katy Leary Park.

The visit also provided the area leaders with an opportunity to raise awareness of the regional crisis of childhood hunger and discuss the challenge with regional program coordinators from the Food Bank of the Southern Tier and numerous other Chemung County agencies.

“We just want to convey the importance of this program,” Food Bank of the Southern Tier President Natasha Thompson said. "The impact that this program has on the ground.”

“Child hunger is prevalent throughout our state and throughout our country unfortunately,” Senator O’Mara said. “There’s no better work in the world than helping kids.”
