On Wednesday, March 9, 2016, Senator Montgomery welcomed the Nurse Practitioners of New York to Albany. Led by Irene Van Slyke, the group included graduates from Hunter College Nurse Practitioner program. 

The Nurse Practitioners met with Senator Montgomery to express their support for Senator Montgomery’s bill, S.971A, which would provide a new funding stream for school-based health centers. School-based health centers, an issue long championed by Senator Montgomery, provide comprehensive, on-site health, mental health, dental and social support services for young people.

The Nurse Practitioners also discussed their legislative priorities for this session which include:

• Support for Paid Family Leave
• Support for legislation authorizing Nurse Practitioners to sign legal forms for patients to be admitted to an inpatient mental health unit on a voluntary basis (A.8440)
• Support for policies that promote equitable health care access for all New Yorkers
• Support for obesity prevention efforts
• Support for increased funding for the Primary Care Service Corps
