Squadron Shares Lunar New Year Greeting

Squadron Greeting Celebrates Year of the Rooster & New York’s Immigrant Tradition

NEW YORK  Today, State Senator Daniel Squadron shared the attached letter wishing constituents a happy Lunar New Year and Year of the Rooster 4715, and celebrating the impact and contributions of New York’s immigrant communities. Earlier this week, Squadron spoke on his State Senate resolution commemorating Lunar New Year and the Year of the Rooster (video available here).

“Lunar New Year is celebrated by New Yorkers across the state, and exemplifies the rich immigrant tradition that makes our city, state, and country so special. This year in particular, I want to take a moment to recognize the impact and contributions of immigrant communities throughout Chinatown and our city more broadly,” reads Squadron’s greeting letter. “I proudly represent Ellis Island and Liberty Island which stand for our country’s cherished history of immigration. I’ll continue to work to ensure that our home remains the welcoming land of opportunity it has been to so many for so long.”

Squadron successfully led the push for Lunar New Year to be designated a NYC public school holiday in 2015, including passing legislation authorizing the designation along with Assemblymember Kim, Senator Golden, and colleagues.
