(Albany, NY)- State Senator John J. Bonacic (R/C/I-Mt. Hope) joined his colleagues from both the Senate and the Assembly today at a press conference in Albany in support of “Blue Lives Matter” Legislation. The Bill, S.1114-A, of which Senator Bonacic is a co-sponsor, would designate certain offenses against law enforcement officers, firefighters, and emergency medical services personnel as hate crimes.
“We have seen the systematic targeting of our law enforcement, and first responders over the last few years, many times simply because of the uniform they are wearing,” said Senator Bonacic. “The anti-law enforcement rhetoric has reached a level in this country that requires elected officials to act to try and work to protect our local heroes. I am proud to co-sponsor this legislation because it will hopefully serve as a deterrent from doing harm to our law enforcement and first responders.”
