Today, for the 5th year in a row, the Senate unanimously passed legislation, creating the new Felony offense of Computer Sex Crimes. I sponsored this legislation, S297, due to the dramatic increase in predators using computers and the internet to victimize children. Computer Sex Crimes occur when a person commits a "sex crime against a child," which was done by communicating with the victim over the Internet. This common sense legislation provides law enforcement with the tools it needs to investigate such crimes effectively.
