Yesterday, the Senate passed my “New York Buy American Act” (S6639A) unanimously. This legislation ensures that New York State road and bridge capital projects will be made with American iron and steel, making certain that the materials bought by New York taxpayers will be of the highest quality and are made here at home by American workers. On projects across the state, including projects at LaGuardia, Bayonne Bridge and Verrazono Narrows, inferior Chinese steel was used, often having to be replaced soon after; with this legislation, only the highest grade material will be used on important New York infrastructure projects, resulting in jobs for American and New York workers.
