Senator Larkin Passes Legislation to Assist Veterans

Senator Bill Larkin (R,C,I-Cornwall-on-Hudson) announced that a bill he sponsored to assist veterans seeking to become civil service employees was passed during today’s legislative session.
“This legislation would allow civil service applicants who, by their service in combat or veteran’s disability, become qualified for additional credit points on their civil service examination score to have such points added at any point prior to the expiration of an eligible list,” said Senator Bill Larkin. “It is not enough to simply thank our veterans for their service; we must take action to support our service men and woman as they enter civilian life and join the workforce.”
“Under the current law, an individual who is not qualified for veterans’ credits at the time of the application, but becomes qualified for these credits during the life of the eligible list cannot add these credits to their civil service examination score,” said Christian Farrell, Orange County Veterans Service Agency Director. “Senator Larkin’s bill seeks to correct this scenario so that qualified veterans receive the credits they rightfully deserve and I applaud him for his ongoing efforts to support the veteran’s community.”
This legislation, S2387, awaits passage in the New York State Assembly.
