On Jan. 9, the first day of the 2019 Legislative Session in New York, Senator Persaud was officially sworn in again as State Senator of the 19th Senatorial District. She was surrounded and supported by the staff from her Albany Office, and her family. Senator Persaud attended Blossom Be You Project's second annual Determine to Rise Summit, an event designed to empower and uplift women in marginalized communities, as their keynote speaker on Jan. 12. On Jan. 25, Senator Persaud's Office in Albany officially moved from Room 504 to Room 409. Senator Persaud met with Linda Beigel Schulman and Michael Schulman to honor their son Scott Beigel, who was a geography teacher at Stoneman Douglas High School and one of the Parkland massacre victims, on Jan. 29 before anti-gun violence legislation was passed. That same day, she gathered with national anti-gun violence movements Everytown for Gun Safety and Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America and her colleagues, Assemblymembers Patricia Fahy, Linda B. Rosenthal and Rebecca A. Seawright. Senator Persaud attended a Build the Block meeting for the NYPD 69th Precinct's Sector B of Canarsie to meet with residents and their Neighborhood Coordination Officers to discuss public safety challenges and concerns on Jan. 30.
