On Friday, April 23, Senator O'Mara joined WCNY's "The Capitol Pressroom" to discuss the failure of the state Legislature's Democratic supermajorities to restore legislative checks and balances to New York government by repealing Governor Andrew Cuomo's emergency pandemic powers.

Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic last March, when Cuomo was first granted the emergency authorization, the governor’s nearly 100 Executive Orders have allowed him to unilaterally change hundreds of state laws, as well as implement rules and regulations and make spending decisions, without legislative approval.

While the state Senate Republican Conference has advanced over 30 legislative amendments to the Senate floor to achieve a straight-out repeal of "state government by Cuomo executive order," their efforts have been rejected by  the Senate Democratic leadership.
