ALBANY, NY – Today, the New York State Senate passed Senator Andrew Lanza’s legislation (S.4273) establishing distinctive "Alzheimer's Awareness" license plates. This bill allows automobile owners to purchase these plates and the funds be deposited in the Alzheimer's disease assistance fund. Alzheimer's is a degenerative brain disease. It is the most common form of dementia and causes problems with memory, thinking and behavior. 

As of this year, more than 6 million Americans are currently living with Alzheimer’s. This disease not only has a traumatic effect on those who are diagnosed but it takes a tremendous financial and emotional toll on family members who care for their loved one. As New Yorkers, we need to stick together, fight this disease and find a cure.  Until this day comes, we must educate the public through community outreach and awareness.

After passing the Senate, the bill was delivered to the Assembly, where it is sponsored by Assemblymember Aileen Gunther (A.6964).
