(WATERTOWN, NY) - Last week was the start of the 2023-2024 NYS Legislative Session. Senator Walczyk received many key committee assignments, including being named Ranking Member of the Elections Committee. In this position, Senator Walczyk will have an essential role in advocating for an up to date electoral process while also establishing adequate resources for rural areas in New York State.

“Now more than ever it’s vital to have safe and secure elections. I look forward to restoring faith in our electoral process for the people of the 49th Senate District and the entire State of New York,” said Senator Walczyk. “Voting is a sacred right that we as Americans have the privilege to exercise, and I’m honored to be named ranker on the Elections Committee.”

“I’m looking forward to working with the Senator this legislative session. We have a lot of work to do,” said Kim Trenter, Herkimer County Board of Elections Commissioner.“ I’m confident he will be a voice of reason in Albany, and represent the values of Upstate New York. Often there are issues rural areas face that tend to fall on deaf ears, however, Senator Walczyk has proven to be a fighter. Being named ranker on the Elections Committee and knowing that one size does not fit all is vitally important to our region. His ability to build meaningful relationships will lead us to accomplish wonderful things for our area.”

“Senator Walczyk is very qualified to serve as ranker on the Elections Committee because of previous record serving in the Assembly,” said St. Lawrence County Board of Elections Commissioner, Tom Nichols. “He has always reached out for feedback on legislation which is refreshing in the modern world of politics first policy. Mark is keeping his feet on the ground and staying connected to the people of home. With these qualities we will be well served.”

“I’m glad Senator Walczyk is going to Albany to represent us, he’s the only Senator working for the people in Oswego County. I’m very proud of him and all he’ll accomplish for us, especially as Ranker on the Elections Committee” said Peggy Bickford, Oswego County Board of Elections Commissioner.

Ensuring the rural areas which construct much of the 49th Senate District have their voices heard is necessary to uphold our Republic. Fair and balanced elections are the backbone to the Empire State and Senator Walczyk is ready to get to work for the people of this great state.
