Senator Walczyk Dons Green Tie for Cerebral Palsy Awareness

Bow Tie Tuesday

Senator Mark Walczyk has chosen a green tie for today’s Bow Tie Tuesday. Although St. Patrick’s day was last week, this green tie still serves as an important symbol as March is the dedicated month for awareness of Cerebral Palsy (CP).

According to cerebralpalsy.org, CP is the most common of all childhood disabilities, affecting approximately three births out of every thousand in the United States. Over 750,000 children and adults have Cerebral Palsy and about ten thousand babies a year will develop the disability. The symptoms vary from person to person so it’s important to be aware of CP and how to help those afflicted with the disability.

“There are hundreds of thousands of people in this great country that live with Cerebral Palsy everyday. They are an inspiration. They don’t let CP win, they don’t let it slow them down. I’m proud to don this green bow tie and spread awareness to this cause for today’s ‘Bowtie Tuesday’ ,” said Walczyk.

“Senator Walczyk is an advocate who supports legislation that improves the rights for people with developmental disabilities, so we truly value his partnership,” said Lynn Pietroski, Chief Executive Officer of The Arc Jefferson – St. Lawrence. “Bow Tie Tuesday is a great way to raise awareness about inclusion for people with Cerebral Palsy and all other developmental disabilities in community life, as well as awareness of the barriers that people with disabilities still sometimes face.”

“CP Awareness is extremely important because it reinforces the simple fact that those with a CP diagnosis are no different than the rest of us,” said Raymond Babowicz, Director of Communications of Community Health Center of the North Country. “We all have limitations, but that should not limit the opportunity to access and enjoy the resources our communities have, while also having the chance to give back and be productive members of those communities in whatever way possible.”

Senator Walczyk represents the 49th Senate District of New York State which encompasses either the entirety of part of Jefferson, Lewis St. Lawrence, Oswego, Herkimer, Hamilton, and Fulton counties. Bow Tie Tuesday is a fun initiative by the Senator to raise awareness to important issues and will be released each Tuesday on his website and social media.
