Statement From Senate Republican Leader Rob Ortt

ISSUE:
- Chief Judge
- Judicial Nomination

Our state’s highest court remains without a Chief Justice. Senate Democrats rigged the system by stacking the Judiciary committee and then ignored the constitutional requirement of a full floor vote. This was all done in an attempt to hijack the judicial appointments process in an effort to appoint an activist judge.
Today, the Commission on Judicial Nominations advanced a new list of candidates for Chief Justice. After the chaos and dysfunction over the failed nomination of Justice LaSalle, it is critically important that a new Chief Justice nominee is advanced by the Governor quickly and an open and fair process toward a full Senate confirmation begins immediately.
