On June 15th, Senator Serrano was pleased to join the Children's Areito educational event at PS/IS 244 in the South Bronx by participating in the "Leading with Values" panel. This panel led an essential discussion on Taino values with examples of various paths to service. During the event, Senator Serrano shared how empathy has shaped his life and his approach to public service. He emphasized the importance of understanding and connecting with others, highlighting that embracing empathy enables us to appreciate diverse cultures and perspectives more effectively. This event provided an opportunity to learn about intergenerational celebrations honoring the indigenous people of the Caribbean, including the Tainos from Puerto Rico, Jamaica, and the Dominican Republic. The event was a fantastic opportunity to learn more about the indigenous cultures of the Caribbean and the values that underpin them.
