On June 17th, Senator Serrano attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony for GrowNYC’s New York State Regional Food Hub, located in the Hunts Point section of the Bronx. This new facility is designed to be a vital link in the supply chain, ensuring that fresh, locally sourced produce from regional farms reaches the tables of constituents across the South Bronx and beyond. Senator Serrano was joined by Governor Kathy Hochul and other important Bronx elected officials.
In an area where access to healthy and nutritious foods has long been a challenge, this hub will play a crucial role in combating food insecurity and addressing the significant health disparities that affect many residents. By facilitating direct connections between farmers and local communities, the Food Hub promotes healthier eating habits and supports regional agriculture and the local economy. Senator Serrano voiced his strong support for GrowNYC and their initiatives, emphasizing the importance of equitable access to healthy foods as a fundamental right for all residents of the Bronx.
