State Sen. Roxanne J. Persaud (D-Canarsie, East New York, Brownsville, Mill Basin, Sheepshead Bay, Bergen Beach, Marine Park, Flatlands, Mill Island, Georgetown, Ocean Hill,  Starrett City) today urged everyone, especially the young people in Brooklyn, to get involved with local law enforcement through participation in the upcoming National Night Out Against Crime on Aug. 7.

National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships to help make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. It seeks to strengthen the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement, fostering a true sense of community.

Enjoy barbecue and bounce houses, face painting, food, and fun. Meet leaders and personnel from your local precinct and interact with neighbors, community members, and local businesses with the common goal of partnership and safety.

“The National Night Out presents an opportunity for the community to get to know the police officers working in our neighborhoods. It’s an occasion to meet officers and get an understanding of the efforts and initiatives geared towards crime prevention. We need the young people to be active partners in building strong communities. The NCO (Neighborhood Coordination Officers) program is the testimony to the kind of community cooperation that exists today.” said Persaud.

Persaud is a huge advocate of crime relating issues including gun violence prevention. She continues to support the state “Create Firearm Violence Research Institute” legislation to study the causes and conditions that lead to gun violence and develop methods of prevention.

There are seven precincts in the Persaud’s 19th Senatorial District including the 61st, 63rd, 69th, 73rd and 75th precincts and the public housing districts PSA1 and PSA2.

Persaud invites the families in our community to come out enjoy the food and games, and get a better sense of how law enforcement plans to work to with residents on engagement and crime prevention.

Constituents in the district can go to Senator Persaud’s Website (https://www.nysenate.gov/senators/roxanne-j-persaud/calendar) to find the details for National Night Out. The NYPD also has the details for all the event locations on their websites: https://www1.nyc.gov/site/nypd/index.page.
