Less than a month into his stint in the state senate, James Skoufis celebrated this week's passage of the Child Victim's Act.

The 31-year-old freshman Democrat, who won a seat that was long held by Republican Bill Larkin, campaigned on getting this legislation passed.

The bill expands rights for victims of child sexual assault, by extending the statute of limitations. Skoufis says the bill is long over-due.

"This is making sure the perpetrators, and the institutions that shielded the perpetrators, are finally held accountable in New York State," Skoufis said.

Governor Cuomo has not signed the bill, but is expected to.
