Decriminalize sex work in New York

Kathy Garcia, a trans community leader at Make the Road, started trading sex when she was 15. She ran away from home because she wasn’t accepted for her gender identity, and employment discrimination meant she had no option but to trade sex to survive. Two decades later, she’s been incarcerated for sex work multiple times, deported and, she says, raped at gunpoint by police who threatened to arrest her for sex work if she didn’t cooperate.
