Franklin Square Public Library Ready for 2020 Census

(Franklin Square, NY) – Starting March 12, the United States Census Bureau will start sending mail to every United States household inviting them to respond to the Census, a national population survey that occurs once every ten years. For the first time in history, respondents will be given the option to complete the questionnaire digitally, via my2020census.gov.
To make the process as accessible and smooth as possible, Franklin Square Public Library has created a Census Station, consisting of a secure computer, privacy screens, and personalized assistance to help residents fill out the census form online. The new equipment was paid for with state bullet aid secured by New York State Senator Kevin Thomas, who represents areas of Franklin Square.
"The Franklin Square Public Library is proud to introduce our Census Station to the community," said Library Director Aviva Kane. "The census is not merely a head count, but a way to determine how many seats in Congress our State receives, and how much federal funding is provided to our community. An accurate count means better funding for the library, local schools, fire departments, Medicaid, and so much more. To make the process as smooth as possible, we invite members of the community to fill out the census form online at our Census Station. If you need help filling out the census, we urge you to come to us. You can count on us, can we count on you?"
"Libraries are uniquely positioned to help ensure that our communities are accurately counted," said Senator Thomas. "There are residents in Franklin Square who may not have internet access at home, have questions about the process, or just want a private, secure place to fill out their questionnaire. The Census Station is a great service to the community, and I urge Franklin Square residents to take advantage of this important resource."
